The One Where Coach Couldn’t Speak

Ryan Woodruff, Lynchburg YMCA

Right now on Saturday mornings we have just a 1 hour practice. Due to having to yell over a lot of noise at practice two days ago, my voice was almost totally gone for this one. The kids did a good job with minimal instructions and encouragement from me.

This blog has always been and will continue to be a FREE resource for the global coaching community. As for many coaches, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant negative financial impact for my family.

If the Swimming Wizard has provided value to you and you have the means, donations are gratefully accepted via PayPal and Venmo.

  1. I love this site! It is awesome to see different ways to do the same thing!!

Our team is sending the workout to athletes the night before. Each child prints it out and “pastes” it to the wall, a kickboard or uses a bag. They review the workout before they start (while they are getting ready to get in). It has helped the coaches keep their voices and most are looking to continue this format past covid.

  2. Hi Kristin. Thanks for reading along and thank you for the idea to print it out ahead of time! We too are using printed workouts on kick boards from both ends of the pool, but you can’t write encouragement, haha!
