Hi Ryan, maybe I haven’t been following your blog here long enough to know your lingo but can you clarify: connected backstroke? JMI can you give me a perceived effort level so I can determine the right interval. FPA how much rest are you expecting your swimmers to get here (same so I can find correct interval). Thank you!

Hi Bethany. Thanks for reading. JMI means “Just make it.” Typically, for JMI sets, I am expecting swimmers to get approx. 5 sec rest with a fairly high level of effort. FPA means “fastest possible average.” I use this for a variety of sets, some with short rest, some with long rest. The FPA description is mostly about a mindset of going as fast as possible but doing it consistently.
